The club was founded in 1884 as an offshoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Derby initially played at the Racecourse Ground, where, as well as competing in a number of friendly matches and informal competitions, Derby entered into the original F.A. Cup.
Derby were founder members of the football leage when it was founded in 1888, and in 1891 they absorbed Derby Midland F.C. to increase the size of their club and fan base.
Steve Bloomer, generally considered to be Derby's greatest ever player, joined the club in 1892, and in 1895 they moved to the famous Baseball Ground, where they would stay for the next 102 years.
In 1967 the legendary Brian Clough took over the reigns, and by 1970 he had managed to finish fourth, though derby were later disqualified from competing in Europe due to financial irregularities. In 1971, however, Clough managed to guide them to the pinnacle of English football with their first ever league championship.

Derby County`s star player of the Premier League
We have chosen Dean Sturridge to be Derby County`s star player of the Premier League because he helped Derby County get into the Premier League scoring more than 20 goals in their promotion season.
His first year in the Premiership was also successful scoring 13 goals including one of the goals of the season against Arsenal. The Derby County fans respected his effots week in week out and was a very consistant performer for Derby county.
