Portsmouth
Portsmouth won promotion to the second division for the first time after winning the league in the 1923-24 season, and managed to gain top flight status by the 1926-27 season, gaining a record 9-1 win over Notts County along the way. However, Portsmouth's debut season in the top flight was a struggle, and their second season saw them fair even worse, even managing to lose 10-0 to Leicester City - a club record defeat to this day.
The present team, under the leadership of Harry Redknapp, certainly doesn't have the same problems, and are in fact a force to be reckoned with. Many pundits have even been quoted as saying that the 2007/08 season may well see Pompey break up the top four. Whilst this is about as likely as San Marino getting to a World Cup, Pompey still have a very talented squad capable of making the UEFA Cup.

Portsmouth`s star player of the Premier League
The Nigerian Nwankwo Kanu has bn chosen to represent Portsmouth`s star player of the Premier League status becuase through all Portsmouth`s manager`s signings Kanu has been one of the best. Kanu is probably one of the hardest players in the Premier League to knock of the ball.
While Portsmouth are having a fantastic season, still well in the top half of the table and a chance of a Uefa cup spot, Kanu has helped to achieve this with his flexibility his great holding up of the ball, he has strengh, he his a player that is very capable in the air.
Kanu has been at some big clubs from the Italian champians at the moment Inter to a great Arsenal side. Kanu`s valuable experience will help his current club to end the season like they started it and hopefully for Kanu and Portsmouth push for a Uefa cup spot this season. Kanu is a very attractive player to watch with his silky skills on the ball.
